WhatsApp is rolling out carts

Shopping carts make the shopping process easier in physical stores, and WhatsApp is hoping its shopping carts feature, introduced to the world on Tuesday, will do the same for online shoppers.

WhatsApp said in a blog post on Tuesday that when users send messages companies on its platform which offers several products, they can browse these companies catalogs, select multiple products and send their list in one order in a single message.

Not only does this make the process easier for customers, but it allows businesses to track orders and inquiries, manage inquiries, and close sales.

Using WhatsApp shopping carts is basically the same process as shopping on traditional ecommerce sites:

  • Press the catalog button in a chat during a business to access its offers.
  • Browse the catalog and press “Add to Cart” for items to purchase.
  • Send the shopping cart to the company to place the order, which is not final until the company has confirmed it.

WhatsApp said more than 175 million people message business accounts on its platform every day and more than 40 million catalogs view each month, adding that a recent survey found that 68% of adults in the world are more likely to do business or buy from a company can contact via courier.

The Facebook-owned messaging app also added a carts sticker to its Open for Business Sticker Pack.
