Twitter introduces ‘Birdwatch’ to fight disinformation


Twitter is launching a new feature to fight disinformation: Bird watching, a “community approach” that involves fact-checking directly with other Twitter users. The experience was first spotted last fall, but the company is now officially presenting the project with a new pilot program.

“Birdwatch allows people to identify information in Tweets that they deem misleading and write notes that provide informative context,” Twitter wrote in a blog post. “We believe this approach has the potential to react quickly when misleading information spreads, adding a context in which people trust and find valuable.”
