The video games we expect the most in 2021

This light, silly adventure seems to merge coordination, strategy, and person-to-person reflexes – a welcome combination of things for people who have spent 365 days trapped inside with their roommates. —Cecilia D’Anastasio

Infinite halo

Everyone is waiting for the Master Chief to appear. Ideally, a game that would have been a launch title for the Xbox Series X and Series S, but was delayed because of everything that happened in 2020. Infinite halo is set to arrive in 2021, and when it does, it’ll show us what new Xbox consoles can do (although the game is also available on PC and Xbox One). In terms of history, Infinite halo takes us forward in time from the events of Halo 5: Guardians, and potentially bring the Master Chief back into the fray when humanity needs him most. Again.

Microsoft said the Master Chief will play a more central role in Infinite halo than what he did in Halo 5, and it’ll also be more personal, ideally giving us more of a window into the character’s background and motivations, something games have sometimes avoided in favor of letting players self-insert. The game is also the final chapter of the so-called Reclaimers Saga, which will ideally mark the end of the current storyline and, knowing this franchise, we will likely head off to another. —Alan Henry

League of Legends: Wild Rift

Riot Games Favorite Cult MOBA League of Legends is finally coming to phones and consoles. It’s been in beta for ages, but with the first ranked season starting at some point in 2021, it’s safe to assume that it will be officially released to all players sooner rather than later. Much of the gameplay will be the same as PC gamers are familiar with – two teams of five compete against each other, with the goal of destroying the enemy bond. ARAM mode will also be available and Wild Rift champions will be the same as their League counterparts. More champions will be released each month, but the current list has 40 standbys from League universe. Riot Games said controls are being revamped and matches are streamlined. Other, Savage rift matches must be played in the same way League games do.
