The morning after – Engadget

Earlier this week, Nintendo launched a livestream for upcoming games. Maybe some remastered Zelda titles for the Switch, finally? It’s the 35th anniversary of the game series, and Mario received the treatment last year.

well yes we have one. The company launched 20 new game announcements, saving the best for last: a remake of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and one Splatoon sequel.

We will revisit the old one, but the presentation also revealed a new Mario Golf game, Fall guys, which is heading to Switch this summer, and Famicom Detective Club, a visual novel-style game being localized for the United States. Also, a Ninja Gaiden collection and Knockout City, an upcoming dodgeball-inspired game not only on Switch, but also on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.

But let’s come back to the main revelation. The original Skyward Sword was a Zelda main title that unfortunately launched on the Wii U. Nintendo’s beleaguered predecessor of the Switch has struggled to sell itself throughout its life. The game has been divisive as well, with plenty of complaints about fill-in tasks, a quirky motion-controlled combat interface, and apparently a harp, which is now a trigger word for those who played the original.

But hey, you got your Zelda remake, okay? Even if it’s not the one you (or I) wanted to. Watch all the highlights here.

So let the American general public decide.

Amazon

Amazon announced its “Day 1” hardware program last year, with Amazon Echo Frames being the first material to diploma at general availability. Now the company is expanding the program to “Built.” It directly takes into account the interests of consumers in deciding whether or not to sell the products, which include a a pretty cuckoo clock, a minimalist smart nutrition scale and a very desirable (just me?) sticky note printer. Notably, none of them look like Amazon-style material, which is a good thing.

You can order them now, but Amazon will only make them if they hit a sales target by March 19. If so, you will be billed and receive the item between July and September of this year. The scale is priced at $ 35, the clock is $ 80, and the printer is $ 90. Continue reading.

Emojipedia

In its iOS 14.5 beta, Apple’s 217 new emoji options focus on inclusiveness. 200 of them are combo emoji for mixed race couples. Apple has redesigned the syringe emoji to be less bloody. When most of us talk about COVID-19 vaccinations, it seems better suited. Apple has also replaced the generic black on-ear headphones emoji with an icon that more closely represents its AirPod Max helmet all in white. Unless you’re on the beta of iOS, expect to see these new emoji later this spring. Continue reading.

The smart speaker firm is hosting a virtual “special event” on March 9 at 4 p.m. ET. The company’s invitation doesn’t say much, but the photo of someone roaming the wilderness suggests they might introduce another portable speaker suitable for the outdoors. And the rumors too. Continue reading.

“Far Cry 4”, “Sniper Elite 4” and “Watch Dogs 2” are the first.

As promised, Xbox Series X and S will be able to play some older games at higher frame rates starting today. The company is rolling out its FPS Boost feature for a few backward compatible Xbox One titles, including Far cry 4 and Watch dogs 2. However, don’t expect all of the important old games to be dealt with. The FPS Boost technique does not work for all titles because it would cause characters to animate twice as fast or destroy how physics sims work. Continue reading.
