Actually attending wednesday inauguration President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris is off the table for most people, due to public health and security concerns, but the Presidential inauguration committee and Snap Inc. have teamed up to allow people to participate virtually.
The two sides have joined forces on a series of augmented reality lenses which will virtually transport Snapchatters to the festivities at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
Snapchat users who access the world view lens (via the external camera) will see an exclusive clip of Biden saying, “Hey, Snapchat: it’s me, Joe. Welcome to the inauguration. They will then have access to a link that will allow them to swipe up and watch the live broadcast of the inaugural program.
And in selfie mode, Snapchatters can snap a photo in front of the U.S. Capitol in festive inaugural gear while party confetti rains down.
Presidential Inauguration Committee digital director Christian Tom said in a statement, “This year’s inauguration has enabled us to create new, innovative and creative tools for Americans across the country to participate in traditions and ceremonies. inaugural while staying at home to ensure everyone’s safety. We are delighted that President-elect Biden is sharing his message about unifying the country with people on Snapchat and inviting them to be a part of this historic inauguration. We hope this tool brings the inaugural experience to young Americans wherever they are and encourages them to share it with their friends and family.
