In December, Netflix tweeted (then deleted) information about an upcoming 3D animated series Sonic the Hedgehog. We haven’t heard anything since, but today Netflix, Sega and WildBrain officially announced Sonic Prime, which is expected to arrive in 2022. Sonic prime starts off as a 24-episode series, and it’s unclear whether that will be the scope or if Netflix will be able to pick more later.
The press release says the series is aimed at “kids, families and lifelong fans,” so don’t expect a brutal and violent reboot of Sonic. Indeed, it focuses on the 6 to 11 age group, although it seems likely that older fans will likely give it a try.The show will be directed by Man of Action Entertainment, a group that has created Ben 10 as well as the original Great hero 6 come on which the Disney movie was loosely based on.
