Jabra adds Elite 85t earphone fit test to its Sound + app

When it comes to active noise reduction (ANC) headphones, a good fit is essential to create a good seal in your ear. Without it, the ANC won’t be as effective, so selecting the best size eartip helps determine how well your headphones will perform. To help you, several companies offer an application-based fit test to monitor the tightness. This week, Jabra adds this tool to its Elite 85t buds which debuted last fall.

With the MyFit feature in the Sound + app, Jabra plays a few seconds of audio to check for sound leaks with the Elite 85t’s in-ear microphone. If a problem is found, the app will recommend users to adjust the placement of the earbuds or try a different set of ear tips. The company says this process can be repeated at any time and will help ensure “an improved audio experience” and “deeper bass” in addition to better overall ANC performance.

Jabra is also expanding the built-in sound mode controls in this update. Before, you could choose ANC or HearThrough (ambient sound) on the headphones themselves, but you couldn’t choose to disable both at the same time. You can do this in the Sound + app, but it requires picking up your phone. Now, the built-in controls mirror the software options and you can choose how the headphone function works. The options are HearThrough and ANC (default); HearThrough and Off; or HearThrough, ANC and Off. In other words, if you don’t want to access all three sound modes on the headphones themselves, you can remove the one you don’t need and just leave the other two.

Finally, the company offers users the option to rename their headphones in the Sound + app. This will also change the device name that is displayed in the Bluetooth menu of your connected device. It’s a small thing, but if several people in the same household or office have the same device, for example, it will avoid confusion.

The Elite 85t update that adds these three features is now available in the Sound + app. Jabra is out an update for headphones in November to solve a noise issue, but this is the first that adds new features to this model.
