You can buy the PlayStation 5 directly from Sony or many major retailers. We’re not sure exactly when new stock will appear, but rest assured there will be more consoles on the way. Here are some of the main places to look out:
Tips to increase your chances
The stock can go down without warning at any time, but you shouldn’t be sitting on websites and refreshing the page endlessly in hopes of getting a PS5. Here are some tips to increase your chances of getting one. And trust us, even if you follow our advice, it is still a painful and aggravating process. You might not have a chance to find one. The best we can say is to be patient and to keep trying.
Sign: Create accounts with Sony and all the retailers you follow. Enter and save your credit card information so you can quickly check if a PS5 appears. If you have a PS5 in your cart but can’t make your order on time, save it to your cart for the next time it comes in stock so you can checkout faster.
Sony Direct Queue: Sony has a system where you can join a queue for the chance to buy a PS5. The good thing is that there are measures in place to block scalping bots. You need a PSN account and it’s a good idea to enter the address and payment information in advance. Once you’ve joined the virtual queue, you should get some estimates of the wait time. Keep the browser window open and don’t be tempted to leave or you will lose your place. You might need to solve a captcha to prove you’re not a robot, so be prepared. Unfortunately, there is a chance that you are just waiting to be notified that it is out of stock.
Twitter Stock Alerts: There are various accounts on Twitter that tweet when the PS5 stock arrives. Large retailers will also occasionally tweet official accounts about restocking. You will need a Twitter account and the app on your phone. Once you’ve followed an account, tap the bell icon to receive alerts when they tweet. Just be aware that you will receive spam and ads for other things from certain accounts. Here are a few that are worth following: @ Wario64, @ PS5RestockAlert, @ PS5StockAlerts, @ iloveps_5.
Consider the lots: Some retailers are mixing the new PlayStation 5 stock in batches, selling the console with accessories or additional games. These packages can be expensive, but if they include items that you are already planning to purchase, they might be right for you. Lots don’t tend to sell out as quickly or attract that many scalpers, so you have a better chance of catching one before they’re all gone.
Inventory monitoring: Various websites and services track PS5 console stock from a wide variety of retailers. Try Stock informant, Now in stock, or the OctoShop Chrome Extension. You can sign up and receive alerts on different channels with these stock trackers, but you will need to react quickly when an alert pops up because a lot of people use them.
Be persistent: If you know that a new batch of PS5 consoles has hit the market, don’t be discouraged by the backorder notices. Many retailers will post fresh inventory in waves throughout the day, so it may be worth checking back regularly.
