Best of CES 2021: Phones, Laptops, Cameras, Health Tech

CareClever boxes. For years, we’ve seen companion robots of all shapes and sizes at CES – cuddles, dog robots, and robots that, uh, do something else. But over the past year, robots for elderly care have taken on a new and poignant emergency as the Covid-19 pandemic has isolated vulnerable populations from their traditional support networks of spouses, children. and grandchildren. CareClever’s Boxes is one of the first companion robots ready to be officially launched in 2021. It meets several needs of seniors – companionship, connection and logistical help – and alone among the companion robots, it is only mobile. You don’t need to enter the living room to voice activate a device on a table. Instead, if you’ve fallen, the Cutii will come to your call and dial your emergency contact. It can also remind you of your scheduled classes, turn off your lights and walk you to the door and say goodbye to you on your daily pandemic stroll. Toto wellness toilet. We knew that “smart” toilets – bowls filled with sensors capable of detecting the first signs of illness – were practically inevitable. But leave it up to Japanese toilet maker Toto to produce the toilet concept of the future, a ridiculously stylish “Wellness” toilet that suggests eating more salmon and avocado. (Just kidding.) Toto showed off a variety of toilet-related technologies this week, including a new washlet and touchless bathroom accessories, but the Wellness Toilet was number one (and number two?) . Toto says he uses “several cutting edge sensing technologies” to scan a person’s body and their “key findings” every time someone sits on the toilet. He then analyzes their waste and suggests dietary changes via a mobile application. Sure, you can attach wearable sensors to your body to get information about your health in other, less invasive ways, but Toto says the benefit of adding AI to a toilet is that, well, you use it every day, whether you think about it. it or not. Toto says he will be shipping the wellness toilet to consumers over the next several years. And yes, it will probably be expensive. But the toilet of the future is almost here. You might even say we’re upset. –Lauren goode
