PS I just finished George Dyson’s last one, Analogy. It’s a mind-boggling tour de force, a far-reaching book that includes a heart-wrenching chronicle of the Native American genocide, riffs on Project Orion (a spaceship propelled by atomic bombs) as well as a three-hundred-year-old arc of the past and future of computers and our co-evolution with them. I could see that this book was the only thing studied in a semester, it has so many whirlwinds, currents and rich ideas. And don’t even get me started on the treehouse and the thirty foot kayak.
