The world of sport is always adapting to the effects of pandemic, but Snapchat has managed to carve out a place for itself in the evolving new standard for fans.
Snapchat said in a blog post that a survey of users last October found that 70% of them use the app while watching sports.
And those sports may have been different from what Snapchatters were used to, as 17% of respondents said cancellations and postponements caused them to start watching or following different sports and teams.
The majority of Snapchatters who responded to the survey use their phones while watching sports on other devices, and they were more likely to spend time on social, chat, or photo apps; call or text friends or family; or play games.
Snapchat wrote in her blog post: “Introducing The World’s Best Fans: The Snapchat Generation. Sports fans don’t just stream content on Snapchat, they create it. Snapchat is home to millions of sports fans who love to connect with their friends, family and other fans. For every Snapchatter who watches game highlights or behind-the-scenes footage, there are fans roaring, raving and talking about the competition.
On a marketing note, the company added, “Fans who eat, sleep and breathe sports are drawn to brands that love the game as much as they do.”
