They can not be smart, but bluetooth speakers still have a place close and dear to our hearts.
It’s fun and easy to ask a Amazon Echo or Google Nest speaker to listen to your favorite tune or tell you the weather, but the smart speakers have a few crutches – first and foremost, a stable Wi-Fi connection. By forgoing (mostly) intelligence, Bluetooth speakers are more versatile, more rugged, and more portable. They will also work with any smartphone and sound just as good as their smart speaker counterparts.
We have tested hundreds of Bluetooth speakers and researched dozens more online over the past few years, and we can happily say that they are still some of the best little devices you can listen to. Here are our favorites right now.
Update March 2021: We added the JBL Clip 4 and the Bang & Olufsen Beosound A1.
